GETTING
AN ESTIMATE..
There are 4 ways to get an estimate on repairing your radio -
each with different levels of assurance. They are -
PREPAID ELECTROLYTIC REPLACEMENT
(requires sending radio to us)
Best dollar value! We would replace the Electrolytics anyway on any
radio that we service.
PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
(requires sending radio to us) Ultimately, we
have to physically inspect the radio to give an accurate estimate of
repair charges.
BALLPARK DOCUMENTATION
(ballpark estimate without sending radio) This
form supplies us with enough information to prepare a GROSS
estimate..
I HAVE A RADIO - WHAT SHOULD
I DO TO GET IT REPAIRED? (Just sends us an
email with radio you have, what you want done, and we respond with
how to get it repaired)
|
We suggest that you use one of the carriers illustrated because
they all have acceptable tracking systems.

ESTIMATE WAY 1 - PREPAID ELECTROLYTIC REPLACEMENT* All old radios that are more than 15 years old have elements in
them that are called electrolytic capacitors. These capacitors are
universally used in AC power supplies and gradually fail over time.
Your radio, if it has not been serviced in many years, will most
assuredly need new electrolytic capacitors. Therefore, knowing you
will need this vital replacement to be done, the most exact method of
getting a binding estimate from us, is to send us your radio and
prepay this replacement. Once we have received the radio, replaced
these components (which would be the first thing that we do to any
radio), then we can give you an estimate of any further repairs that
need to be done (if any).
The following links are to a payment and information page, where you
tell us some basic information as to the radio you are sending us and
pay the fixed fee for electrolytic replacement (Either $65.00,
$85.00, $105.00, or $130.00 based on the radio). The
payments may be made with any normal credit card through PayPal. Once
you have completed the submission of a little information, and made
payment through PayPal you will be instructed as to where to send your
radio. Hopefully, you have looked at our pages on
PACKING (if not
please do).

*This
$65.00 filter capacitor replacement rate applies to small 5
tube or less table radios. The $85.00 filter capacitor
replacement rate applies to radios with more than 5 tubes
or greater than 10lbs. $105.00 is for radios over 30lbs.
$130.00 for radios over 45lbs. |

IDENTIFY YOUR RADIO IN THE
TABLE BELOW
Click the link on the left side of the table that most closely
matches your radio for number of tubes, weight, type, etc. (See -
How to identify tubes, age,
power transformer, etc.)
After we receive your radio, we will replace the electrolytic
capacitors and will check the radio for any additional work that needs
to be done (if any). We will then send you an estimate for any
additional work. This estimate will also include (separately) the cost
for shipping your radio back to you. If you do not wish to do any
further work, we will return the radio once you have paid for the
return shipping.
If you elect to do any stipulated additional repair restoration,
then that will be performed subsequent to our receipt of the estimated
(firm) repair charges . After all work is completed, your radio
will be shipped to you using the safest and most economical means of
transport.
SUMMARY - This is a low
risk option because you get some basic work done that will most
assuredly have to be done anyway, and we have the radio in-hand in
order to give you a precise detailed accounting as to what needs to be
done and why. Many times, simply replacing the electrolytic capacitors
puts the radio back into service, though not secured from further
failure down the line from other marginal components.

ESTIMATE WAY 2 - PHYSICAL EXAMINATION This is the safest way to get a binding estimate on repair of your
radio. You simply send us the radio, where we can physically and
electrically inspect it - thus providing you with a list of the
recommended repairs at a fixed cost. The following link gathers some
basic information from you about what we can expect when we receive
your radio and we will send you the address that you can ship to.
There is a charge of $40.00 for the labor of receiving,
unpacking, chassis removal, and testing. This money will be
credited towards any repairs that you select after we examine
the radio.
The estimate you receive from us will be precise for each
recommended repair. If you do not wish to proceed with any of the
recommended repairs, we will simply return the radio to you after we
receive payment for the return shipping.

ESTIMATE WAY 3 - BALLPARK ESTIMATE FOR DOCUMENTED
RADIO
This option allows you to receive a
BALLPARK estimate on your radio repair without physically sending
the unit to us. To take advantage of this you must have read and
thoroughly understood the process of documenting a radio which is
found on the DOCUMENTATION page.
Since this estimate is a BALLPARK, the more information you provide us, the more precise and
possibly lower, the estimate will be.
For example, if you only provide us with,
Table Radio/Plugged in - no sound
we can give a BALLPARK estimate but it
would be very high. (We have no idea about age, condition, number of
tubes, date, model, manufacturer, etc.)
Once you have gathered all the information
found on the DOCUMENTATION page, click the following link to send us
the data. If we have any further questions about your radio, we will
email you back before providing a BALLPARK estimate. It usually takes about
4 - 8 days for us to turn around a desktop BALLPARK estimate based on
submitted information.
